ART TO HEAR

Since 2009. Art to Hear is a very unique book series by publisher Hatje Cantz, offering an audio tour for a major exhibition on cd, accompanied by selected printed masterworks in a small book—an ideal companion for re-viewing the art show at home. For the design pitch we developed a visual concept using only the primary print colors cyan, magenta, yellow and black plus white for the covers. The cd is mounted directly on the front cover, showing a detail of one of the exhibition’s masterworks.

And we won! In addition to the cover concept and the book’s layout we created two key visuals for the series’ introduction campaign, using a cute dog listening attentively to Art to Hear, and a brush dripping with blood-red paint for Art to Hears’s sister series Art to Read. Since 2009 nearly 20 books of the series have been published, many of them in German and English.

In July 2011 the Art to Hear series and publisher Hatje Cantz were honored with the innovation award for one of the best ideas of Germany in 2011.
